The following images provide an overview of using the FreeStyle Mini.

1. TheraSense FreeStyle miniR blood glucose meter.

2. Snap off the cap on the lancing device at an angle.

3. Insert a new lancet into the white lancet-holder cup.

Press firmly to lock in place.

4. Twist off and remove the rounded top of the lancet exposing the needle of the device.

5. The lancet is now in place with the needle exposed.

6. Replace the clear cap until it snaps into place.

Be careful not to touch the exposed needle.

7. Prime the device by pulling the dark grey handle.

It is now ready for use.

8. The test strip vial has a code number printed on it.

The code number on this vial is 16.

9. Insert a new test strip into the meter.

The meter will turn on automatically.

10. When the meter turns on it should display a code number. This number should match the number on the vial.

If it doesn’t use the ‘c’ button to scroll up or the ‘m’ number to scroll down to the number that matches the number on your test strip vial.

11. Wait until you see the blood drop and test strip symbols appear on the meter display screen before lancing your test site.

12. Hold the clear cap firmly against the test site. Press the grey oval release button. DO NOT LIFT UP.

Continue to hold the lancing device and GRADUALLY increase pressure for several seconds.

13. Once a drop of blood has been expressed (you can see this through the clear window) lift the lancing device straight up.

Be careful not to smear the blood sample on your test site.

14. Apply the edge of the test strip to the drop of blood.

The test strip acts like a sponge and draws the blood into the strip.

15. The result will appear in about 7 seconds.

The test strip is complete when you hear two beeps.

Your blood glucose result is shown on the screen.

16. Remove the lancet from the finger prick device and dispose of safely in a sharps bin

Do the same with your used test strip.
